Several sanding passes are necessary to properly expose the raw wood. The first sanding step involves removing the old varnish, stains, residues, water damage, glue, oil, and dye. Our professional belt sander must be passed several times to meticulously remove all residues, ensuring that the sanded layer is of uniform thickness throughout. If the wood is hard and the surface is severely damaged, up to six sanding passes may be required.
Coarse-grit sandpaper is used initially, and progressively finer sandpaper is employed in subsequent passes. The final polishing is done with very fine-grit sandpaper. If the wood is coated with a urethane varnish, a coarser grit is necessary for the initial sanding. For factory-pre-varnished floors or surfaces with heavy glue, a specific type of abrasive paper must be used.
After completing all these steps, the hardwood is ready for the application of varnish, stain, or oil, according to the client's preference.
